When you want to buy a slice of paradise in your favorite travel destination hotspots, choosing the right location will be at the top of your mind. But the type of holiday home you purchase can matter just as much as the destination. At Munds Park RV Resort, we offer a wide range of property types and vacation options, and one of our most popular options is our selection of park models. Understanding the difference between a park model vs. a tiny home can help ensure you’re getting exactly the vacation home you’re looking for, from the space and amenities down to the standardized regulatory codes for construction. Keep reading to learn more about the difference between park model homes vs. tiny house constructions.

What Is the Difference Between Park Model Homes vs. Tiny Homes?

Take a closer look at the fundamental differences between these two structures:

Park Model Homes

Park model homes are a distinct type of tiny home. They’re specifically built to be small, sturdily built vacation homes that you can park at your favorite long-term vacation resort or wheel around to different spots at parkgrounds.

They have less than 400 square feet of space, and every square foot is built to comply with ANSI standards. This means they meet or exceed the construction, manufacturing, and safety standards that RVs do. Not only does this make them more reliable over time, but it makes them much more insurable from a wide range of providers and under a wider range of plans.

Tiny Homes

Tiny homes are the informal term used to describe a wide variety of very small homes—including park model homes. Tiny homes are also often built on wheels and feature square footage in the low hundreds. However, they aren’t built to the same standards, and you’ll encounter a much wider array of quality, safety adherence, pricing, and amenities when you broaden your search to “tiny homes.”

One of the main constraints many tiny homeowners face is that parkgrounds won’t allow them. These units are often considered accessory dwelling units that semi-permanently or permanently sit on a private residence. Parkgrounds can’t accept them because there are too many unknowns, and the risks are high.

How Much Do Park Model Homes vs. Tiny Homes Cost?

At Munds Park, we offer beautiful new park model homes starting at $104,900 for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home of 363 square feet and $119,900 for a home of 374 square feet. When you’re comparing the costs of park model vs. tiny home options, consider both the short-term costs and the long-term costs. Tiny homes are generally at a lower price point than park model homes, but the price can vary far below and far above park models. After all, there is no single difference between a park model and a tiny home.

Is a Park Model Home a Good Investment?

Park model homes can be an excellent investment, with advantages like:

  • You have your own vacation residence at your favorite place to visit and relax. Consider the time, money, and stress savings you can gain every time you vacation!
  • Your home is built according to nationally and internationally recognized standards, which will make it safer over the years.
  • ANSI-compliant vacation homes hold their value better, making it a smart option if you think you might resell it in the future.
